Introduction of SEE

The School of Electrical Engineering (SEE, original name the department of electrical machinery, or the department of electrical engineering) of Chongqing University, established in 1935, which is one of the oldest and most powerful school in Chongqing University, and gains good reputation at home and abroad. In the past 85 years, SEE has trained more than 20,000 high-level talents for the country.

At present, more than 180 staff work in the SEE, among which 85.8% of the full-time teachers have a doctorate and more than 65% have study abroad experience. Currently, the School has more than 2,300 students, of whom more than 200 doctoral students, more than 600 graduate students and more than 1,500 undergraduates.

With an intact education system that cultivates Bachelor, Masters, PhD and post-doctoral, SEE is listed in the construction of the state “211 Project” and “985 Project” as key construction unit, which has "Electrical Engineering" key discipline at the national level (one of five nationwide, with 5 complete second-level national key disciplines), "electrical engineering" first-level discipline doctoral program (including six second-level disciplines doctoral programs), "electrical engineering discipline" post-doctoral program, State Key Laboratory of "Power Transmission Equipment & System Security and New Technology " (one of five national laboratories in Electrical Engineering), "high-voltage power transmission and distribution equipment security theory and technology" Creative Research Group of National Natural Science Foundation (one of three Creative Research Groups in EE ), the National Teaching Base for Foundation Courses of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the National Teaching Center for Fundamental Experiments of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the Teaching Team for Foundation Courses of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, National Quality Courses "Circuit Theory" and "High Voltage Engineering", etc..

In the past 2 rounds of China Discipline Ranking assessment in 2006 and 2012, our first-level discipline electrical engineering ranks TOP 5 in more than 300 similar professions all over the country. EE for undergraduates passed National Engineering Education Accreditation and was named the national characteristic specialty construction in 2007 and became pilot Excellent Engineer Training Program of the Ministry of Education in 2011. These high-level research platforms provide a good teaching condition and educational environment for training and development of students. SEE, sticking to its education philosophy of "taking root in Chongqing, finding a foothold in the Southwest, facing the West, serving the whole nation, stepping towards the world", taking academic frontier of EE and national demand as orientation, undergraduate education as main body and base, graduate education as vitality, and EE talent cultivation as fundamental is fully committed to developing it into a world-class research school, with unique characteristics and international fame.

In order to further expand our international reputation in the professional field of EE, and internationalize our disciplines, scientific research and talents, SEE have established close cooperative relations and normalization academic research exchange mechanism with the University of Sheffield, the University of Nottingham, Durham University, Warwick University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin, Mississippi State University, the University of Alberta in Canada and other internationally renowned university, and have built four international collaborative research platforms like high-voltage external insulation and icing field test base, power system reliability assessment center, renewable energy conversion system reliability research center, intelligent information processing, through which a good international environment for cooperation was created for further development of high level research platforms and key discipline. SEE, with California State University, Sacramento, is conducting “1 + 1.5” dual-degree master program that has teaching, research, engineering practice integration, established “2+2” joint undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, launched “4+1”or “3+2” bachelor-to-master degree program with the University of Nottingham, started UC-CQU project with the University of Cincinnati, set up a "CQU-UC Electrical class". At present, SEE has established an intact system for internationalized education that covers bachelor program, master program and PhD program. On the basis of establishing a normalized cooperation and exchange mechanism with many overseas universities in the preliminary stage, SEE has established specific goals and plans for international talent training, vigorously promoted multi-level joint education projects, which covered a number of doctoral, mater, and undergraduate programs. And cooperative overseas universities include the University of Nottingham and Queen’s University of Belfast, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, California State University, Sacramento, Wayne State University, Curtin University, etc. More than 200 students went to foreign universities for joint training programs, and initially formed an operational mechanism for international talent training.

Looking on the future, SEE is carrying forward its excellent schooling tradition, striving for the realization of its goal of developing itself into a world-class research school.
